I foolishly downloaded a file on a forum and not sure if i got my computer and usb infected or not. I got one of those messages such as you are currently using so and so isp and i believe it mentioned my isp address as well. Then it mentioned to be aware of your password, credit card information etc. I closed it and then did a virus scan with malwarebytes, superantispyware. As usually superantisypware always show adware cookies... malwarebytes didn't.
However... when i went to scan my usb... reason is b/c my 2.0 usb was plugged into my dell xps 8100 during this time... it doesn't show E drive for removable device. It shows I drive. I also when trying to scan it... it shows E, F, G, H and I. But when i check E or F or G or H to scan invidually... it say cannot scan. Thus i can only scan the letter I drive.
Should i be worried my desktop or usb is infected? Upset b/c i had already did a clean reinstall of it earlier but then today i downloading some file and not sure if it has any virus/trojan etc and pretty upset at the moment.

Look into social engineering malware one of these days, it will be educative and will give you a better idea of what you may just have encountered.
As far as drive letters are concerned, they aren't exactly fixed in concrete when it comes to removable drives. Some types of card readers may also show up as drives even though there are no drives in them. I haven't seen the behavior on a laptop, but I've seen it on plenty of desktops.. Also, if you have multiple removable drives plugged in, it's possible that one may get assigned a different letter than usual to avoid issues.
My desktop currently shows D:, D:, E: as hard drives, F: as the optical drive and H:, I:, J:, K: as removable diskts. The last four are the card reader and there are no memory cards in the reader at the moment, they just show up as being there since the reader unit itself is plugged in. -
Hi. The thing is i havent used this dell xps 8100 since i did a clean reinstall of if few week ago. When usb was in it... it was E drive. Today after i downloading a file... then cancel it b/c i saw a message that show my ip address and my isp, then i quickly cancel the download and scan computer. So you dont think tats coincidence? Because before today, its always E drive... never I drive.
Also i tryyy to download panda usb and it doesn't allow me to download it on the computer... -
Why don't you go into disk management and just reassign it the I drive.
