I have a 3.5 ext. hd and when I connect to win98 using USB1.1/2, 98 never detected my hardrive, even I install the driver that comes with the ext. harddrive. It only works on xp/2000. Some people told me, USB ext. harddrive only support 98 SE and up version, can everyone tell me is that rigth, and how can I get that work on 98. Thanks very much

I could be wrong but I don't think '98 supports external mass storage until SE. If that's the case, upgrading is your best option.

Not likely. You're talking about an OS that's over 5 years old at this point.

Huh....for a five year old piece of software...the prices sure haven't gone down much!

From a quick search, I would have to say Brian is quite right. Your stuck If you stick with 98. There might be a driver out there, but You'll be in a killing mood by the time you find it. Windows 98se supports USB quite nicely plus it has other fixes, and IS still supported mostly. Check to see if freinds,enemys,co-workers or others might have an old 98se disk just sitting around before you buy.

Thanks for the information, Brian and AdvidG.
AdvidG, if there is really a driver out there to make it work with 98, then I think the CD should have included that driver with the ext.hdd enclouser right?
Anyway, you are right, I might end up killing myself, if I keep going too deep.

I'm thinking they are assuming that everyone running 98 is actually running 98se. And you know what they say about assuming....
