    Hey,

I have a problem with my laptop (asus n53sn).
The USB-ports (2.0) are not working in windows. They do work in linux.
The USB 3.0-port works in windows and linux.

    Some information:
Windows 8. (Same problem in windows 7 too)
    All drivers are up-to-date.

I have tried multiple clean installs. The usb-ports work for a couple of days and then just fail (on windows).

    Any idea to fix this?

    Thank you!

Hmm, usually USB ports are controlled by the chipset driver. I would check to see if there are any bios updates, and make sure you have the correct chipset driver installed.

Hey, I have tried un-installing all the usb-items. And then running that Intel INF update program.
This fixed the problem but after rebooting the problem occured once again.

There are 3 new updates to the BIOS. But I do not like the idea of flashing my BIOS.

    Updates to BIOS:
Looking at these updates I do not see a fix to my problem.

The fact they come in and out means a driver issue somewhere. In device manager is anything marked as not working while USB 2.0 is out?

I do not quite understand your question.
Do you mean by in and out, working & not working?
If so then if the 2.0 USB are not working then it gives me the same devices that do not work as in my first post.
(The 1C26 (see first post image) always gets the code 43 error)

When they do work then nothing gets marked as not working.

Sorry my bad, I guess that is a screen shot from win8, I'm win7 missed it. Now when you update the drivers does it say the exact same driver? I as as with Windows 7 there is a roll back driver button when you select properties. do you have this option?

I agree. I only do bios updates if i have a problem, but since you have a problem, its worth trying.

Ah alright, yeah I'm on windows 8.
They rollback button is greyed out for me.
Trying to update the driver always give me the warning that I already am running the latest drivers.

Now I've searched some more and I found that it is possible to fix this by removing battery and draining all energy from the laptop. But is this harmful to the laptop?

    edit:
I think I found a way to reproduce this failure.
    1. Device is not working?
    1.1 Uninstall device
    1.2 Reinstall device
    2. Device should work now.
2.1 Restart -> always usb failure
    2.2 Shut-down + boot -> x% change of usb failure.

So something bad must be happening during boot...

Yes, the driver is being changed out. Some how the working driver is being seen as the improper driver. If you screen shot the drivers also after they are working, are they the same drivers?

Hey, the past 2 days I haven't had a problem with my usb-ports. They are all working once again. (Intel INF update + re-install worked I guess).
So for now I do not know if the drivers are being changed.

I'll update once the ports fail again. (hopefully never :D)

Update: USB stopped working once again. The drivers however are still the same.
