I have one of the Gateway P-6831fx laptops, and I have a quick question.

I've been trying to get my external USB hard drive and flash drives to work, and it keeps bringing up the "windows needs to install drivers" popup, and if I tell it to search it doesnt find anything. I had a Dell running Vista for a while and it had no problems running the USB storage devices, so I dont know if its vistas fault or not. Anyone have any ideas what might be the problem?

Have you looked in your device drivers to see if there are any red x's or ! points?
