Uhh, I have some files with... indecent... names on my computer. They're not anything. Seriously, they're not ANYTHING. They just sit there. I can't open them, I can't delete them, I can't change the name, I can't move them, I can't do anything with them. They're not anything but an image on my computer. And I really want to have them deleted. They're in the form of *.jpg, and it won't let me delete them. Do I need a file shredder or something?

    PS
Sorry if that didn't make much sense or sounded like I'm blabbering, but I'm in a kind of state of sleepless derilium.

That happens quite a lot. Does it say "the file is in use" everytime you try to delete it?

Often what I do on my PC is restart the computer, and then delete those files right away. That way barely any application can even try to be using that file.

I have had that happen from time to time, also with folders. I use my desktop as a well, desktop so that is where it usually happens.

Even when i delete on a fresh boot, sometimes they come back. I have a dos boot jump drive, so I boot to dos and then delete .... dead - never to return :D

you can start your comp in safe mode. that will make sure most processes aren't in use. then you can delete those pesky ones.

you can search google for software called something like "delete 'remove on boot) what it does is you tell it exactly what file you want it to delete (has to be file, can't be folders) and it will do so on the next start-up. if not, try safe mode.

Try booting into safe mode and using a 3rd party deleter like Killbox.

dos boot and then delete has always worked for me.
there is a thread i made a while back that tells the whole story of the pesky file I had. you don't even have to boot dos, just call up the dos prompt window from the start menu, type the proper comand witht the file name in it and presto, file is delete.

As I've said, they don't do anything. They don't even say "file in use". They just sit there, mocking me. I've considered trying to delete them while running the Linux Ubuntu LiveCD. Anyone know if that'd work? If not, I'll try the recommended DOS boot (I'll try that first, actually). Thanks :)

Get a free prog called Unlocker. This unlocks many files and folders allowing you to delete them. Any it can't unlock it will ask if you want to delete on reboot.
