    Title explains..

The Shrink volume feature for Disk Partition says I can't shrink more ....But I have more than 30 GB free space on C:

It says relocating pagefile will allow me shrink further
But why i cant relocate pagefile? (Primary Reason that windows gives)

Is there any third party program to do further partition?

In order to resize, (most likely you're on a laptop) you need to disable hibernation and/or the page file. Note that this will stop your ability to use both of these, so:
    1. Disable hibernation and/or pagefile, google it if you don't know how
    2. Shrink the partition.
    3. Re-enable hibernation and/or pagefile.

Vista's shrinker absolutely sucks. Get GParted Live and do it with that.

Vista's partitioner actually worked quite well for me. I believe it's non destructive though my only quibble is that there isn't a progress bar for how the partitioning is doing. I will agree with Greg though, GParted is easy to use, but don't bother creating a live cd just to partition, Vista's should do the job.

you probably have 1 HD and 1 partition which means there is nowhere to relocate the pagefile. that feature is for users with multiple hard drives; you can increase I/O by putting the pagefile on another physical drive so windows can access system files and the pagefile simultaneously.

if you want to "get back space" on your HD from windows, you need to...

    1. shrink the pagefile as small as your specs will allow
    2. turn off features like System Restore that take up HD space (do this only if you don't care about Restore points)

there's not much else you can do except get rid of unecessary personal data or applications. you can try to compress data, but that's usually a bad idea.

What? Are you from Venus? I've known how to do that since you were 4. :p

Ok, OK. Here is how to move it if you have another partition already in place.

    How to move a pagefile.

The article is for XP but will work on Vista as well. If you DON'T have a partition you can move it to you can temporarily run without a page file while you do the shrink. I don't think you should have any problems doing that providing you have 2 gigs of memory and don't have anything else running while you do the shrink.

Ok, maybe I was "picking" on you a bit. But only because of your attitude in the other thread about partitions. You were VERY rude to the poster there, belittling what was a very good question. I was trying to show you the same rudeness. But I think you got the point now.

And I did go ahead and post a link for you on how to go about moving the pagefile.

So after you moved the pagefile, did that fix the issue with the partition shrink? Or did you also have to eliminate the hibernation file as well? I see in the other "shrink" thread that apparently the bootlog files are at a fixed spot as well. I wasn't aware of that. Did you see that post?

Hey, I tried the vista shrinker on SZ 140gb and the lowest it could shrink was 80 gb. Next tried Acronis Disk Director and that shrank to 40gb and could go all the way to 20Gb if I wanted but 40 Gb was good for me for the vista partition.

I believe that Acronis is one of the apps that can actually move the pagefile, hibernation file and bootlog by itself.
