    Ok here's the rundown:

I would keep vista if it didn't f**k up all my most needed software. I need to downgrade so I shrunk the vista volume partition and created a 10GB partition for XP.

Upon entering the XP cd while vista is running it doesn't allow me to setup (that option is greyed out)...so I opt to boot it off the disk on startup. Everything looks like it's going fine...it starts loading up all the drivers and preparing files and then BOOOOM!!!, Blue Screen of Death! I can't install XP.

Im all kinds of frustrated...It's funny how if I don't have XP right now that my notebook feels like a paperweight. I'm sad :(

My basic goal is to eradicate vista from my life and replace it with ole faithful XP...and it needs to happen fast!

Thank you all and I hope that all you guardian angels can help me destroy a devilish vista. ;)

    -Alex

It's probably missing the SATA drivers.

Either switch the drive to ATA mode in the BIOS (not sure how you do this on HP BIOS) or download nLite and slipstream the SATA drivers. I think there's a sticky thread in the HP forum that has more detail. In any case, it's been discussed a zillion times so if you search the forums you can definitely find stuff.

The .exe extracts the files, you don't need to use winrar. :)

    ok that worked!

xp is installed, got most of the drivers installed except for the single most important one for me :(:

I can't install the GPU driver (ATI 3450)...I went to their website and nothing worked. Right now xp is a little fuzzy and when I browse the internet and scroll up and down its choppy and flickery....

If someone could tell me how to find a working driver or fix my problem that'd be great and I'd be the happiest guy ever ;)

i guess its not worth downgrading if I have no gpu. and then if I upgrade all the adobe products wont work...so my laptop is a paperweight

    all because of vista's gayness

the only other OS is linux...but I dont think that will help
