    Hi.

    My laptop is 4152Mi.

    This laptop is unable to load to the window.

    Meaning there is initally a black screen. It is suppose to run and load to the window page.

    Re-started it and still the same old problem.

    Then now the screen appear a white background with green/blue words stating "boot device".

    4 Choices below floppy, harddisk, CD-rom,PXE.

    Not sure how to deal with it.

    Please help.

    Under boot device, make sure you choose Hard Disk. Should load your Operating System off of that just fine.

    your HDD may have a corrupt boot sector...

    go into BIOS by pressing F2 when first powering up (keep pressing it)

    see if it shows the HDD model under boot device section...

    if so your HDD is there,,, but you have some type of HDD problem

    hopefully its just a corrupt boot sector, which is easily fixable

    check BIOS and report back

    later,
    bigO

    that means the BIOS is seeing the HDD and communicating with the drive's controller board..
    first a word of caution::: any of this you do at your own risk,,, as you could loose your data... i would not attempt any of this unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing... it sounds like a simple fix and if you wait someone more knowledgable than myself may have better advice..

    hopefully you have backed up your crucial data...
    now on to my advice::

    my first question would be how crucial is the data on the HDD??
    because the easy way to fix this would be to use the Quick restore disks to restore laptop to like-new status

    i would refer to the links at the bottom of this post before trying the method suggested below.

    however if you have things on there you can't afford to loose you need to find someone more knowledgeable than me to help you in dealing w/ your problem

    it sounds to me like your boot sector or MBR (master boot record) is damaged

    there are CD images that you can download which will boot the laptop from CD and attempt to repair the MBR and boot sector,,, but i have never used these UNIX live CDs and have no unix experience

    one option is to put your XP disk in (assuming you are using XP) pay attention to the first few prompts YOU WANT TO BOOT INTO RECOVERY CONSLOE

    at dos prompt type fixmbr{enter}
    then fixboot{enter}

    that might fix your prob..

    here are a few links that might point you in the right dirrection

    Another point.

    FIXMBR
    fixmbr device name
    Use this command to repair the MBR of the boot partition. In the command syntax, device name is an optional device name that specifies the device that requires a new MBR. Use this command if a virus has damaged the MBR and Windows cannot start.

    Warning This command can damage your partition tables if a virus is present or if a hardware problem exists. If you use this command, you may create inaccessible partitions. We recommend that you run antivirus software before you use this command.

    You can obtain the device name from the output of the map command. If you do not specify a device name, the MBR of the boot device is repaired, for example:
    fixmbr \device\harddisk2
    If the fixmbr command detects an invalid or non-standard partition table signature, fixmbr command prompts you for permission before rewriting the MBR. The fixmbr command is supported only on x86-based computers.

    if i were in your situation,, i'd try to borrow an XP disk from someone so you can get into the RECOVERY MODE

    i'm not sure what the recovery disks will do,,, they may not alllow access to RECOVERY MODE...

    try posting this problem in the WINDOWS thread...
    many more people,, more qualified than myself will see it there,,,
    and i bet you get an answer soon in there.... it's always got over 100 ppl in there even at 3am

    good luck,
    bigO

    i have a very old travelmate 230 with the same disk's
    and yes it does have the recovery or fix windows xp home option.
    and it does repair the MBR only if the D2D is on in the BIOS.
    start with the boot disk and after a few mins it will ask for the Disk 1 of 1.
    i did this a few weeks ago and had no lose of data.
    but it did go update happy it needed a few updates from microsoft after the repair.

    I have known BigO for some time and he will not give you info that he himself has not done.
    Rep him, he deserves it :)

    Disk-to-Disk backup, a way of performing a backup instead of using a traditional tape.
