    Hi

    I have a Compaq Presario V2414NR

As you will see in another thread, I may have to do a total wipe and re-installation of XP SP2

I have heard that the re-install will put in place a number of software packages that I probably do not want or need.

Can anyone point me to a listing of what this software might be?

    Thanks,

    prs

I think you've heard wrong, as far as i know a re-install cleans your system of such software.

if you reinstall with your OEM discs, then you will get bloatware (if your laptop had it when you got it)

You can just go to your programs and features under control panel and see a list of programs installed on your computer.

    Thanks all for your replies

The oem driver disk does have some trial software (bloatware) that I have not installed in the past.

I guess after the re installation of the OEM OS and drivers I can scan the programs sub dir to see if there is anything there that should not be (or that I do not want).

If I were to do a new install from a non oem XP package, would I be able to recreate all of the laptop features (such as the touch pad, hibernation, etc) that were were probably buried in HP's OEM disk

Alternatively could I load something like ubuntu and have all of the features?

    Thanks again
