    Uninstall Mcafee that came with my Dell

    help i want to uninstall mcafee (resource hog and useless) frm my dell. any way of doing it without formating the hdd?
    i dont even have option in the add/remove programs to uninstall it??? :confused: :mad:
    any ideas?

    If the uninstaller is'nt is add/remove programs look at the start menu entry,if the uninstaller is'nt there then try downloading CCleaner and uninstalling it with that.

    you should at least have some form of anti-virus if you will be on any kind of a network--check out AVG or avast!. Both are free and use less system resources.

    Contact McAfee support. They will email you some files that will help clear out the existing McAfee files on your computer.

    If the program is installed, there should be an uninstaller in the program's directory folder. Completely end all processes that are running for McAfee, then run the uninstaller.

    If Add/Remove Programs doesn't have a listing, CCleaner won't either. They both get their "material" from the same place. ;)

    I think the OP is caught with an incomplete uninstall or file corruption somewhere. The McAfee files (that their support staff can send to you) will act as a "scrubber" and remove the McAfee files in your registry, etc. I've done it before and it's very simple. Open the email they send you and execute the files in order. Then reinstall McAfee if you want to.
