If the Steelseries Engine driver is present on your Windows installation when a Windows 8.1 upgrade is done the system will not boot.

Uninstall the Steelseries Engine driver before upgrading say from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1

System broken after Steelseries driver installation on windows 8.1 - Microsoft Community

Steelseries Mouse & Keyboard software completely breaks Windows 8.1

There is still no fix released at the time of this posting.

In about a day from now Windows 8.1 will go from RTM to GA.

There will be ISO downloads, downloads from the Windows Store and Retail versions in stores.

Windows 8 had no "Retail' versions so this is one way Microsoft is hoping to get more to use Windows 8.1.
