I went to CCleaner's uninstall tab, and windows add/remove programs and notice a LONG LIST of Windows updates (46575886..with the number ID at the end) for WIndows XP, and the Hot fixes. Aren't these files EXEs and once installed can be removed? Or will it remove the actual update?
Also is there a place on the web that summarizes the importance of commonly installed programs and advice on whether or not you should remove them or not? Besides common sense and the knowledge you have on whether you use the programs often. I have so much crap, especially since SONY installed lots of their programs which Im debating to remove or not with that "JUST IN CASE I MAY NEED it in the future thought."

it will remove the actual updates
for a manual removal of the installer files:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
if u r not short on disk space, i'd leave the files alone, only stop/disable the processes and/or startups
just "google" whatever names u see under cCleaner and it would give u an idea
cheers ... -
From the uninstall tab, it will remove the update;
However, in CCleaner, under the Cleaner tab, in the Advanced section, there's a checkbox to remove the Hotfix Uninstallers. -
My mate uses this reason not to update. Still on stock June 2005 system settings, 40gb HD!
