    Hello

I noticed that there are some Windows Updates, including; Windows XP Hotfixies, Updates for Windows XP and Security Updates...that can be removed after they are installed. They are named with a Number, begining with the initials KB (ex. KB901214)

How can identify which updates that aren't useful for the system?

    Thanks for your attention...

    Regards

the only update I can think of that might warrant removal, would be windows genuine advantage. In Add/Remove programs, select the "show updates" checkbox. That lists the removable updates.

You can't remove WGA. After doing so you won't be able to get the good updates until re-downloading it. It's lame, I know.

Some useless updates might be Windows Media Connect or WMP 10. You could also say the Frameworks are useless if you're not developing/using software that requires it.

I wouldn't go through the trouble of uninstalling them once they're there though. It won't make any difference performance-wise, and it's kind of a pain. You can't remove the Windows updates through Add/Remove programs/updates. You'd have to manually run the uninstallers (if they exist).

I would disable automatic updates on your computer, and instead manually check for updates every 2 weeks or so. You could look at the updates, and what each update does before installing it.

you could always leave automatic updates on the setting where it notifies you when updates are ready, but takes no action until you tell it to. that's how i do it with my computers. i always check out what they do before i install them.

I do the same thing as Dragonesse. If you are proficient with computers, you should be able to judge the validity of the update for your particular system.
