I found an unknown executable file on my computer today. It was called "dl.exe"

It just popped up a cmd prompt window and thats it. But after it did that my internet just wouldn't work. I was connected to my network and my friend's lappy was doing fine, but when I tried to load a page, it wouldn't load anything (it didn't even seem to try).

I did a system restore from and everything is fine now, but does anyone know what that could be?

I really hoped you did a full virus scan and spyware scan.

Do not open unknown files. Most important, never run unknown executables.
Google search brings the info on dl.exe up as first link. Consider doing a search before playing with unknown files. It would of forewarned you.

Indeed. Also, try right click > Scan with [name of virus scanner] for any future needs.
