I had important windows updates 3 which are for Microsoft.Net Framework 4 and everytime I try to install it the update fails.

I tried the troubleshooting links that the error links me to, such as unistalling all of Microsoft.Net Framework versions and then reinstalling them manually, and then checking windows update and running it again.

When I've finished manually uninstalling and then installing, restarting and then checking for updates I get a lot of updates that lead up to version 4, all the prior versions install successfully expect when I get to Microsoft.Net Framework 4 those updates will fail to install.

It says this is a known issue on the microsoft site, and I've tried the steps they suggest. I don't see any other option besides it telling me to post a question and hopefully someone will try and assist me, so I've decided I'll try with the community here first.

I don't feel comfortable that this update is for a known security issue, and I still have the updates available on my window updates, but can't install them.

Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully someone else has this issue.

Thank you guys for the responses.

Jayayess1190 thanks for the link, this seems to be my problem, but I don't have time to try it at the moment.

I'll report back later when I've tried what was posted in the forum.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the responses raptor and garfield, but jayayess has linked me to the solution to this problem. I manually installed them, restarted, checked for updates and says i'm up to date.

    Thanks guys.

Glad that worked out for you. However, I have run into these situation hundreds of times with various computers and it doesn't always work.

Here is something that does work, and is not terribly well known

    The .Net FrameWork Cleanup Tool

.NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

Run this. clean up the problematic .net framework in question, reboot, and hit Windows update for the freshest batch.

Has worked every time for me so far on those reticent .net framework issues.
