Without going through the history of this laptop again ( little history) I need to know, if after I install the recovery disc which brings me up to SP2 version of XP, if is necessary to finish updating through SP3 in order to just flash the bios in order for me to install Win 7 on it. I don't want to have to go through all of that just to overwrite XP with Win 7 when I'm done. I don't have any drivers installed either, no point in installing then wiping out again. Little help?

your bios flasher should work fine on SP2, so there is no need to upgrade to sp3 first.
