Hello everyone, I just received a copy of Windows 7 Professional via MSDNAA. I'd like to upgrade my computer which is running 7 Home Premium.

Is there any tweaks that I need to make, as every time I try to launch the Upgrade process via the downloaded Win7Pro disk, it tells me to use Anytime Upgrade. However, Anytime Upgrade says that it can't upgrade to that version of windows after I enter the key given to me by the MSDNAA (it validates fine).

    Suggestions?

    Thanks :)

Is that msdnaa full version or upgrade version? I think anytime upgrade will only accept anytime or full version key.

I'm quite sure it's an upgrade version. Is it not possible to upgrade cross version of the same OS? There's no file tweak that can force it?

Upgrade version only upgrade from previous version windows. You can do clean install with upgrade version though.

Is there any way to verify if it is upgrade or full? Image size?
That seems odd that they wouldn't allow that...

I think you probably better ask your source give you a full version key. There's no legit way to verify windows key.

The key is given to each user via MSDNAA, my administrator doesn't get to pick that. The only versions offered are 7 Pro x86 and x64.

There's no way to use Anytime Upgrade in this case. Anytime Upgrade keys (from one version of 7 to another) are unique from retail/OEM/MSDN(AA) keys.

Actually anytime accept full version/OEM key too, just not upgrade one. I did that on two of my laptops. One with oem, one with msdn key.

Alright, then how do you suppose I go about upgrading my install to Professional via the disk? It does the 'check', then tells me to use Anytime Upgrade...

Burn it to a disk and boot from it.

I think you can select custom installation for a clean install.

You can't upgrade from booting, only from the Setup inside the OS.
The disk is already burned. I also don't want a clean install, but if it's the only way, alas, I will do it. I just want to avoid backing everything up and reinstalling from scratch.

Quick question guys - can I use a Win7 Home product key on a Win7 PRO disc? Will it install Win7 Home or Pro?

You may have to remove the ei.cfg file and reburn the disk before it will allow you to install Home Premium.
