This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Upgrade from Vista HP to 7 Pro

    Here's a quickie.

    Windows Vista Home Basic to 7 Professional isn't classified as an officially sanctioned upgrade path according to Microsoft.

    Well I got Professional for my father the other week, and we did it quite successfully with 'upgrading', by setting Win7 as Home Premium on install without the key.

    Then using WAU (Anytime upgrade) and inserting the Professional Key.

    It upgraded the SKU and activated itself perfectly.

    Thanks MS for making one step harder than it should have been. :p
