I got the "upgrade" license key for Win 8 Professional from my university, but it didn't have any iso to download. So I downloaded the retail iso online, but I'm not sure if the key I have will work with the retail version. Any ideas?

Download an ISO from the link below after you enter your serial key and unpack it onto a USB flash drive that's at least 4Gb using the Microsoft USB/DVD Tool

My brother was using Windows XP 32-bit. For some reason, the "Install by creating media" was not there. I heard it was an issue with XP. If I install it the normal way, I found out it will download and install the 32-bit version. I prefer 64-bit because he has 4 gb of RAM. Now that XP is gone... I'm redownloading Windows 8 again on a Windows 7 64-bit OS; that should give me the "Install by creating media" option and a 64-bit version. I will try tommyxv's suggestion.

When is digital river going to post the Windows 8 ISO's so you can download the 64-bit version?

Yes. The upgrade key should work on a retail copy, assuming it's for the exact same version, ie. Pro/Enterprise, x86/x64.
Upgrade license key - can it be used on retail version?
