I'm in the process of ordering a new HP notebook for school next year, probably a dv2500.

The notebooks available through the school's program all have vista business and office pro. I'd like the same on whatever I order.

From vista home basic to vista business is $99 through HP; can I do this for less on my own? (is it even possible/practical?)

Adding office small business (they don't offer pro for some reason--access is the only difference, though, which i don't care about) is $279 through HP. Again would I be better off getting the software on my own?

    Thanks for the help.

OpenOffice is free and works quite well unless you have a specific need. I don't know about your school, but some offer academic discounts. What parts of Office are looking to use?
