I recently got a Lenovo x61s factory loaded with Vista Basic because as a student, I have a license for Vista Ultimate available for $20.
Doing a search or two, I have heard the line from several people on this forum, "Ultimate is a waste of money, all it buys you are some useless features that really don't do anything anyway." Anyone care to elaborate on exactly what features they may consider useless?
Could anyone make some suggestions about what features I would want to consider not installing during the upgrade, if that's an option? I already know I do want the Complete PC Backup utility.
Thanks,
Mac

Ultimate is a big upgrade from Basic (Aero, Media Center), not so much from Premium.

For $20, definitely a worthy upgrade!!.

You can check out the Lenovo section for the Vista clean install guide in the Thinkpad sticky.
