Is it worth it? Will my server settings and saved/sent/inbox/etc. message import automatically?
Does it have any significant advantages?
-
You will have the option to import everything from OE.
Back then, before MS released free POP3 support, you must use Windows Live Mail in order to be able to retrieve mails from your Hotmail accounts. But now with POP3 support available, this shouldn't be the case anymore. Some people prefer the old interface of OE, and some prefer WLM's, so it's all personal preferences. But MS has abandoned OE, so you won't really get any support from them anymore and you may have security problems in the future. Give WLM a try, if you don't like it, there are always alternatives such as Thunderbird. -
If I uninstall it, will it revert to OE6 or will I be **** out of luck?
Also I wasn't planning to use it with hotmail (I didn't even know that was an option, actually) - but with the email from my personal domain/hosting account, which has its own POP3 and SMTP, will that be a problem? -
From my understanding, OE will still be in the system (XP) when you install WL Mail.
For Hotmail POP3 configuration, follow the instructions of this thread.
Both OE and WL Mail can retrieve mails from your own domain/hosting account. -
Thanks for the info.
