My uncle has Win 8 Release Preview. Is there any way of upgrading to final version without doing a clean install or wiping all the data and apps off the hard drive?

The Win 8 Release Preview has a valid license until January 2013 but he wants to upgrade to full version without doing a clean install on it. He has some special programs running on it which he can't lose.

Yes, you can upgrade without a format + reload. You must purchase a key from Microsoft for $40, and then activate it.

You can refer to this link for the upgrade assistant: Upgrade to Windows 8 - Microsoft Windows
