    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here could please help me regarding an upgrade problem with XP. I try to upgrade XP Home Edition to XP Pro using a CD I purchase at my university. However, during the process of "installed window", it stop and keep going back to "set up restarted". It keep doing this in repeated cycle and my computer end up crashing. I was wondering if anybody know a safe and sure way to update XP pro without causing the system to crash. Thank you in advance for your help....(I test this upgrade out with my desktop to see if it work cuz I am planning to do an upgrade with my laptop also).

Depending on how long you've had your machine, it might be better to do a clean install anyway. Have you considered going that route?

    Hi,

regarding my system, it still fairly new. It's not even a year yet, and it runs 2.6 HT so I wasn't expecting any problem or so with the installation. So you think it's best if I install window xp pro version completely on its own instead of trying to do an upgrade with it then. Should I do it then on the unpartioned drive after backing the data back? Thanks again for the help.

Yes, I think the approach you described is sound.
