    Upgrading to windows xp, Disc wont recognize my computers HDD

    Hiya all, Im upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows xp on my Inspiron 1520 Notebook, The notebook specs are as follows.

    2GiG of ram
    Nvidia 8600 256 GT graphics card.
    120GiG HDD
    Centrino Duo core processor 2.0
    Windows Vista home premium.....

    So I tried to put in my windows Xp Disc and go into the boot up window which it did get to. Once there however it gave me this message "Unable to find storage drive" I called my friend who is good with computers (Desktops) He tried to use his own copy of the OS xp he used on his computer a Burned copy of it and it didn't work ether... You guys got any idea what could the problem be?

    You need to find your SATA drivers from the manufacturers website and then use nLite to slipstream the drivers into the CD. The reason is because SATA wasn't full developed when XP was coming out.

    Vista has the SATA driver built into it, and as Crimsonman said, XP wasn't built with the SATA driver built into it.

    Going from Vista to XP on a Vista-first machine is a bit of a pain.
