    I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

One day, 3 weeks ago, after running windows update, I experienced a problem. The computer would get stuck during boot, and would not budge, no matter how many times I restarted it. It would freeze at the "Starting Windows" screen. It worked when booting in safe mode. I ran system restore to right before the updates, then did a normal reboot, and it worked, allowing me to pretty much isolate windows update as the problem.

Yesterday, I attempted windows update again. Once again, my computer hung on the boot screen, and I had to do a safe mode system restore. However, this time, the system restore took me to a point after all the updates were installed. The computer worked with a normal reboot after that.

Upon trying to boot my computer up today, however, it got stuck on the boot screen. Once again, safe mode worked (which I'm in right now). However, system restore did not do the trick this time, and I cannot figure out how to make it past the "Starting Windows" screen during boot.

How can I isolate which update might have caused this? What can I do?

This is urgent, as this laptop is needed for work, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to try uninstalling the particular update that's causing the problem.

    Boot into Safe Mode
go to: Add or Remove Programs
on the left, select View Installed Updates
Guess the correct update by its installation date and uninstall it

    Good luck!
