So it's said Vista consumes more power and takes more storage than XP. What about the new Windows 7, compared to XP?

same, but in general < vista. so win7 is sort of inbetween.

then again, vista doesn't need much resources. not by any of todays or yesterdays standards. so doesn't xp nor win7.

but in disk usage and ram usage xp < win7 < vista.

but if it's now bad or good to use more disk storage / more ram is an open question, that can only be answered by "it depends".

wasted space is bad of course. but new occupied space that helps to enhance your experience == good.

So when running on battery, XP will last the longest, Vista the shortest?

I usually hear that Vista is more power-efficient and gives better battery life... especially if you turn off a couple of the new features, like transparency and maybe sidebar. It does partly depend on the drivers though, so it might not be the same for every system.

Vista does use a lot more disk space than XP though, no doubt about it.
