    Most Useful Add-ons for Firefox!

First of all let me start off by saying that most of firefox add-ons are user preference, but I think that there are add-ons that's a must!! I myself just started using firefox add-ons around 3 months ago and I fell in love. I must confess that I never believed in "add-ons" since I have been mislead before by "add-ons" that will speed up your systems etc (i.e. rambooster eww). Until being told by a knowledgeable person that softwares like that would only slow down your system even more (note: that this was when i had a intel celeron desktop with 256 ram  *goozebumps*) later on I found out that rather than spending hours after hours looking in the internet for softwares that can speed up my system magically..i went to bestbuy and bought another stick of 512mb ram, BAM!! boottime increased less system lag. Anywhooo enough of my blabbering and lets get on with the show.

    Privacy and Security *A MUST!*

    - Adblock Plus
annoyed by those "win a free....bla bla bla" ads. This baby will take care of all your problems (maybe not all ;) ). Seriously this is an add-on for firefox thats a MUST!!! you will also load webpages faster...so what are you waiting on add add add.
    - Firefox Bookmark Synchronizer
tired of not having the same bookmark with your home desktop and laptop?? this add-on will fix that for you. It keeps your bookmarks/passwords synchronized among several PC's. *note that you have to install this add-on in every computer you want it to sync with* .
    - NoScript
lets you choose if you want to run a content or not..if you dont trust the website.

    Add-ons I use

    - Greasemonkey
Great script manager program...I actually use this for spotify and last.fm. So I can browse last.fm and when I see an artist I like it opens spotify and searches for it automatically.
    - Tab Mix Plus
I am greatly in love with this add-on this adds feature like tab locking and protecting and also it shows a progress bar on the tab itself to show page load progress, and one last thing that it turns the tab red when you havent clicked on it....stop reading and get it now!
    - Yet Another Scrolling
Do you like opera because it can scroll smoothly on your favorite website?? well uninstall opera and get this sucker..it has 3 preloaded settings you can change by right clicking (you can also customize your own)
    - Smart Bookmark Bar
if you're like me I dont like bookmarking pages i simply drag them to the space below the url form. But that can be a problems since you can only have so many showing at the same time. This fixes it but making them into icons.
    - TwitterBar
if you love twitter, you'll love this :D
    - Shareaholic
i like sharing pages i find interesting with my friends on facebook or delicious..this add-on does just that.
    - Inquisitor
instead having to load a page install this add-on and it will show in realtime your search request. (make sure you change your default search engine to google :p )
    - Cooliris
this addon has the definition in its name "COOL"...but seriously its pretty sweet when youre browsing all those drunken pics from the night before on facebook ;) .

Well thats all i have for now feel free to give suggestions, any would be greatly appreciated.

I don't like downthemall. I prefer a stand alone application, which will run even if I exit firefox. If I'm not mistaken, download will stop also if you just close the window of dwnthmall.

    I'm up to 15 add-ons.

    Already Mentioned:
    Adblock Plus
NoScript -- It's astonishing how many websites use scripts!

Customizing Appearance of Firefox: I like to maximize screen real estate by hiding the menu bar, the address bar, the status bar, etc.
    Glasser
    disablemenu
    Hide Navigation Bar
    Personal Menu
    Organize Statusbar
    myFireFox & Vista-aero Modifier

    Just Useful:
    Download Statusbar
Fast Dial -- Thumbnails of your favorite websites are shown in new tabs.
Fireshot -- Useful for taking screenshots.
Status-bar Scientific Calculator -- Convenient. I use the Windows calculator much less because it's one click away.
Stylish -- Sort of like Greasemonkey, I think.
TimeTracker -- Quantified proof that I spend way too much time browsing the internet
Zotero -- I haven't actually used this yet, but apparently it's useful for bookmarking sites and organizing citations while doing research online.

    Add to Search Bar

Those of you who used IE7 might be familiar with this. Basically it allows you to add any website that has a search bar to the search tab on the upper right hand corner. Makes it easy to make search queries easily for some websites like Dictionary.com. :)

Check4Change - periodically checks a website for changes. You can check either the whole page or certain portions of it, and define how often it checks for change.

Everything else I use has already been mentioned :)

    locationbar²

on one side for aestetics, on the other side for web savety. and as a third for usability.

it changes the way the url gets shown. it splits server and subfolders and even makes them clickable (similar to how the adressbar get handled in the vista explorer).

i use this ext since years. now it looks like ie8 partially has catched up. (i have green arrows instead of / enabled. lets you separate the url much better visually)

    A couple I use that I don't see mentioned:
IE TAB I know we all hate IE, but there are just some sites that require it.
Distrust Great for private browsing - feature is built into 3.1b tho.
FireGestures Probably my favorite of the 3, my simple touchpad with 2 buttons now as the functionality of a multi-button mouse.

jup ietab got forgotten. but actually, haven't used it since around 2 years anymore. and the one or two pages i may require it can get browsed with ie directly as it's fast and snappy now with version 8 (and secure). but it's good to note it.

Showcase -- is nice... like the thumbnails view in IE 7, partially live.
Stylish -- use custom CSS. Like greasemonkey, but for CSS. they call 'em userstyles.
Tabs Open Relative -- Like Google Chrome (and IE 7 I hear... how would I know )
New Tab Button on Tab Right -- Must I explain?

Attentian to Foxmark users. Tehy are becoming Xmarks, and start collecting your private information for some "new features".
I just found out about Mozilla's Weave, which is like Foxmarks and more, so, check it out.

ive always wondered: exactly how safe are firefox add-ons?
just because the add-on's are listed on mozillas page doesn't necessarily mean it's safe, right?
so would it be possible for someone to slip something malicious in?

Hopefully they would be OK, but I think I remember a malware infected build of a Mozilla product got onto one of their sites a while back... so I think it's best practice to scan everything for malware. Of course, with Firefox add-ons, you have to download the .xpi first, which could end up being somewhat of a pain, so...

Only one time (sofar that is), a Vietnamese language pack add-on contained malware generated html script.
Since then, Mozilla scans their add-on servers every day for malware.

    I use:

Adblock Plus - Ads? What ads?
Linkification - makes text links clickable! A must!
Text to Image - makes text links to images appear as the thumb. A must!
Download Statusbar - because it owns.
Forecastbar Enhanced - I like the weather at my fingertips
    Fasterfox - speeds things up
Fission - makes the loading bar appear in the URL field
