Strange. Mine is 0 byte. And I have 2 hotmail accounts synched with Windows Live Mail. And 200+ contacts on one, and about 40 on the other for private use whichs also synches with my HTC HD2 (aka. Leo) as well (Mail, Contacts, Calandar etc.). This is on my ThinkPad, I can also check on my Qosmio. But the strange part about mine is that that is 0 byte.

This is really strange, 4.4GB? Are you sure? Seem's a little steep, for a folder that just hold's your Windows Live Contact's. Hmm. Mine is 120MB.

Wowza, Mine is 2 folders, with hidden stuff in them. As to your question, they are your Windows Live Contacts, for WLM and the like.

Just because they are really small in appearance does not mean they are really small in size. Also, just because they are all the same size in your contacts does not mean they are the same size.

I am no expert in WLM--the entire concept of instant messaging eludes me. However, I do know that people will often do wonderfully stupid things when it comes to pictures. Programs like WLM don't account for stupid things and just do the best they can, sometimes by reducing an image's appearance even though the actual image SIZE in bytes is much higher.

    To illustrate:

Which one of these pictures is largest? All 3 appear to be the same size because your browser doesn't care how stupid I am--it just renders the image.

The first image is actually 118kb, the second is 265kb and the third is 873kb. Now imagine if you have fifty 8 x 10 portraits in hi-rez bitmaps that your contacts decided to use because they don't know to convert it to a 72 dpi, lossy jpeg?

The other option that occurs to me is that you somewhere chose to log all of your IM sessions for the last 6 months. I know you can log everything in AOL IM, so I assume you can do the same with WLM.

I know you said you did not do this, but have you gone through the entire preferences/option settings to make sure?

The final idea that occurs to me is that windows is misreporting due to file system corruption. When was the last time you ran a chkdsk?

just did a chkdsk: windows could now find any prolmes.

i thought WLM would re-size the pictures i choose.. e.g. i select a 1920x1080 .jpg file with 2 mb, it would make a 30x20 .jpg file out of it and use it?

    Anyway:

is there a way to read these files or open them?
    can i delete them savely?

    thanks

I'm pretty sure you can delete them, as WLM will just get them back off the server.

What do you use for email? What is your antivirus?

looking around for similar cases always leads me to Windows Mail related issues and antivirus issues (virus scanner holding open log file so new file is auto-created,
