Hi all, well after 4 months of going nut's with Vista, I finally decided to buy a new HD and partician it with vista & XP pro and it's been running Sweet and Flawless until I broke my printer and opted for a new one. My old printer Multi-funtion worked without problem on both sides. OK so here is my question:

On installing the New printer HP j6480 multi-function on the XP Pro side The installation went ok and printer set up without problems untill the next day I found it was creating problems with windows hanging & programs not closing. So I uninstalled it from control panel and did a system restore. Upon contacting HP they had me install it again from their web page for XP only, but had the same problems. They had me unistall it again from the uninstall tab on the softwear, but found 3 HP links  (HP's own spyware) in control panel which I uninstalled manually and did a system restore again. Needless to say the printer went back.

OK, everything seems back to normal but I am noticing a few little quik's. Don't know if the HP softwear imbedded somewear or if System restore is causing a problem because of the 2 OS. Any thought on it?

What quirks are you seeing? You could run tools such as Revo Uninstaller and CCleaner to clean up any residual files and registry keys left behind.

Nothing really major, but have noticed a few brief momentary lingering windows, just not responding as fast as beforeI install, uninstall & system restore, but all the everytime. I'm running on 10mg's with a 7200rpm HD so everything was lightning fast before I intalled the printor software. My big concern now is I got a different printer that I need to install and don't want to keep installing & reinstalling if it's an OS problem due to the daul partitions.

I am guessing that you will need to install the printer drivers on both OSes for it to work smoothly. I haven't done this before, so perhaps someone else can chime in. What was the system restore for though?

It has nothing to do with the partitions. The printer does not know there are 2 different operating systems on those partitions nor does it care.

If you installed the partitions right, and the OSes...it shouldn't be a problem with them. Your problems maybe caused from other issues, such as Spyware, or even hardware issues. What are your specs?

No I meant make sure it is on both so that you can use the printer on both. I didn't want the OP to assume if the driver was on Vista then it would work on the other.

I intened to do that but as I am using the XP Pro side more so I did that one first. But the next morning when I noticed the puter hanging even when the mouse rolled over Icon's and programs were logging in without being prompt for log in's, I knew there was a problem. I check task mgr and sure enough programs were running that I logged out off the night before.

I did the system restore to make sure there was nothing left behind from the HP software. I had googled the problem and seems there is some kind of known conflict with the software and IE 7. But I suspect it's more than that as HP put's 3 direct links in their software to monitor the printer, ordering etc. what they call help software and I call spyware.

So I'm not sure if there is still something hidden or got messed up from the unistalled & system restores. And yes, the partitions were done correctly by an IT guy and everything was running sweetly. But I googled the system restore on 2 partitions and it indicated that their might be a problem doing it so I posted here.

Erm, what? I had a tough time following you there. Also, if you uninstalled the program...then it shouldn't be still running. And also, HP wouldn't ship you spyware in their printer driver install CDs...I know that for a fact, or else everyone in the **** planet would have Spyware issues. From what your telling us, I'm beginning to think its a separate issue from the printer. And the printer might not have been the problem in the first place.

Also, you never did tell us which OS you were having this issue with, XP or Vista or both (er, I guess you meant XP)? Run some anti-spyware/adware programs to see what comes up.

New HD & partioning was done just 3 weeks ago, I use Avast. The only spyware that could have gotten in is HP's. That's why I did the system restore to make sure everything was removed. My spec's are as follows:
    Dell XPS 1530 - 2.40 (t8300) - 4 gig's memory - Nvidia gforse 8600M gt

    New HD - 320, split @ 160 running at 7200 RPM
    Vista Ultimate/XP Pro sp3

Well, I did mention I only got to installing it on the XP Pro side, before I noticed there was a problem. And I am sure it had to do with the HP software because it was my trading platform that didn't log off the night before that they confirmed I was on line from the day before, and I was on the phone with them when I uninstalled HP's software and I immediately went off line with them as soon as I did. The HP installation CD runs 8 programs that I had to uninstall, 3 of which were direct links into HP! now you can call it what you want but I call it spyware! if it's running all the time in the background. The 2nd time I unistalled it was with HP as they had me install it from the website using the XP only installation. Immediately the problem returned and they had me uninstall it from the uninstall feature, which left behind the 3 programs I am refering too. I unistalled them manually.!! ! Everything is running as before but I am noticeing a few kinks so I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the system restore?????.

Just wanted to thank you for all your help, Nope it had nothing to do with the 2 OS. I returned the HP & picked up a Canon mx 700 (4 in 1) installed it today even to both sides, same way thru the router. Everything is working fine, no hicups, no hanging, everything is running smoothly.

Glad to hear! I am no fan of HP's software either. I try to make sure I have the minimum installed so that it just works; usually just the driver. For my scanner I let Paint.net handle the scanning and editting. The rest is just junkware.

Thanks atbet, I have 2 HP G85's and love them they have been work horses, but I actually was having a problem reinstalling the director to my New Dell but as they are a plug & play all the features were working anyway. So I was almost thinking of replacing them anyway before I broke the ink carriage on this one because without the director I couldn't access certain features thru the puter. But never expected the problems with their software, diidn't have it on my last Dell but than again that was 4 years ago, nor did I have it on an ealier lap. Canon also has the feature to monitor the ink levels but the tech had me disable it completely on install by not excepting the terms, HP didn't give you those options and just snuck them in. Any removed the last bit of HP before the install and my puter is running sweet again. Love Dell!!!! Thanks again for all your help.
