I've used two monitors many times, but now I have a laptop, so I have 3. Here is the problem, I can't easily turn off 2 of them and easily leave 1 on. It may be due to 2 of them being 1920x1080 and one being 4K. Basically, my laptop screen almost never gets used when on my desk, I mainly use the 1080p 144hz. However sometime's I want to game on my 4K TV. To do so, I have to unplug my 144Hz 1080p Monitor. I've tried enabling and disabling with the Nvidia and Windows display settings but it doesn't seem to work. Whichever monitor is set as #2, it will always extend to that screen.
For example - 144Hz monitor as #2 and 4K TV as #3. I extend, and the 144Hz monitor is usable (that's what I want). BUT. When I change my 4K TV from #3 to #2, #2 then becomes #3. I extend, and the 144Hz monitor is still extended to, even though it is now #3.
Any idea what's wrong or programs to overcome this easily?

This likely depends on the model of laptop, connector(s)/cable(s) used, and GPU.
Without more information it's hard to say much helpful, but I'm guessing this is a limitation of the GPU itself and you may not be able to get around it. -

Alienware 15 R3 w/ GTX 1070. Displayport w/Displayport cable for the 144Hz monitor and HDMI with HDMI cable to 4K TV. It supports HDMI 2.0 on the laptop, as I do get 4K 60fps. I don't think its a matter of the GPU, I can use all screens fine. I just want to switch between my 144Hz or my TV. But the Windows OS is limited to "1" and "2". And for the above reasons, it doesn't allow for easily using Windows in this matter -
It's a really old windows problem . O personally haven't been able to find a solution. Last time I re installed Windows it worked just as intended and perfectly.
The next time I reinstalled, didn't want to work properly no matter what.illuMinniti likes this. -

I see, didn't know that. This is my first time with 3 monitors, but its kinda surprising that something like this wouldn't run smoothly, considering the platform can support pretty much endless number of displays. That's why I am curious if there is other software that is buy-able, to fix this. I don't see why not, but I also don't know of anything other than Ultramon, a outdated program.

You can always contact Dell/Alienware for more help on this since this is their hardware and they can do more to help you here.

You're right. Didn't even cross my mind. If I get any worthwhile info I'll post back with it but I doubt it
