I am trying dual boot now (with Vista installed first.) I have been using the applications installed with Vista, and I have noticed that the fan is on a lot very much like I am using Vista. Is it ok to use programs already installed for Vista? Or should I install them separately for XP? Thank you.

normal rule of thumb is to install older version of OS first - in this case XP and then Vista. Much less headache :)

after a few usages, u should see/feel that vista would run quieter

u can try to call them cross partition/platform and see. Most 3rd party apps would have no issue been called from another partition. Windows apps and games would run much better if they r installed to the specific os

    cheers ...

Thanks. Not sure if I was clear enough. I have been using applications I installed for Vista when I use XP. In my experience the fan and hard drive work more frequently in Vista. I feel my laptop's 120gb hard drive is barely large enough for two operating systems. Installing applications only once and be able to use them on both Vista and XP seemed like a good idea as that would save space on the hard drive.

sure it would, & i m using this approach as well. Just that not any app would be able to be called cross-partitions. Users r the sole tester.

    cheers ...
