You guys have any tips for me? I have Microsoft OneNote on it, and I will definitely use that. What do you guys do in class? Do you put your notebook in standby between classes? Or hibernate, or what?

    Thanks!

You can use "sleep" if you have Vista, it will do so very quickly and wake even faster. If you have XP, standby---with its slightly higher power state---is fine for the 15 minutes or so between classes.

    OneNote is a good idea.

I used to take notes on my laptop, then realized how much of a distraction it was. I was constantly checking my e-mail, IMing, and wasting time surfing.

Also, taking notes electronically is risky -- a crashed HD and you lose all your notes. At least on paper the only thing that can happen is you lose the notebook.

    I honestly don't recommend note-taking on a laptop.

But to answer your original question, I put it in standby for quick breaks (passing period). I shut it down if I won't turn it back on within the hour.

Doesn't One-Note have an auto-emailing feature? I knew people in my class who would backup their notes to email automatically so they could view them on the public PC's on campus.

I hibernate during lectures because xp boots faster and no delay in opening word in case I get the lecture a bit late :)

I use word 2007. I tried onenote but altough you can write on the any part of the page in onenote word is far more better with shortcuts so I do not need to use touchpad to insert bullets, symbols etc. which saves time in long lectures

I always use my notebook for taking notes in class. I type much faster than I can write.

Also I enjoy doing other things while on the computer obviously.

Some professors should not be in existence & suck at what they do: teaching.

That thought aside I need my notebook for continuing my torrent downloads,

    Instant-messaging, email, NBR, etc.

As long as you look up and shake your head up slowly after the professors "good point" while behind a notebook -- you're golden!

Enjoy! BTW -- I use stand by when going to different classrooms. Hibernation sucks up HD space.
