    Hello everyone,

I'm curious to know if it is possible to use a system restore disks for smaller hard drives than the one that the computer comes with? I have a 160GB drive on my Acer Aspire One netbook but want to install my old 60GB SSD instead. I would like to restore the OS to the SSD but don't know if that is possible, as I don't know how the drives will be partitioned by the restore disks.

    Has anyone done this?

    Thank you,
    Gnimble

The size doesn't make a difference, so in theory, it would work fine. Does your current HDD have a restore partition on it?

Yes, the current drive still have the original recovery partition on it. I don't want to damage the SSD in case it tries to image a 160GB partition... but that will probably just result in errors during recovery. Newegg has the 640GB drive for $65 so I might just go for that instead. 60GB SSD or 640GB hard drive... hmm...

    Cheers,
