Do Not buy Vista from windowsmarketplace.com
REPEAT!!! Do Not buy Vista from windowsmarketplace.com
How do I make it bootable.
I just burnt it to a DVD and tried to boot from disk.
No success
-
I think ultraISO can make an ISO file bootable, just make sure u have several copies of the ISO so if it doesnt work u can still find another way. also since u bought it from microsoft, you should talk to them and demand they help u sort this out. after all u paid for it
-
That sucks.
What software are you using to copy it to DVD? And what is the format of your vista download? (ex: .zip .rar .iso .???)
Maybe one of us could help with a bit more info. Don't panic yet. -
Ano. Did you burn it as a disk image?
Is there only one file in the DVD you burnt?
Care to post a screenshot of the DVD contents? -
"upgrade" version of vista will not be able to burn to any optical media, as saying clearly so on the site
for other versions: BENDER, LIVEFRMNYC and SideSwipe already gave some hints
cheers ... -
I find it very hard to believe that Microsoft wouldn't make the image bootable... I'd definately try again, making extra sure that you're burning it as an image and not just data.
-
I am sure it is bootable - you need to burn it as a image, not just the file to the DVD -
-
I downloaded Premium Upgrade and I just finished installing it.
I had to clean install XP then upgrade to Vista.
Also during Vista Setup, there was no option to reformat or repartition HDD.
Instead it created a folder called Windows.old(my XP data i guess) when I
chose to clean install upgrade to Vista.
I just had a 30 mins phone chart with microsoft. They sent a transcript to my
email address. Here it is>>

How to burn an ISO
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=how+to+burn+a+.iso&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8
Use something like nero/alchohal 120, or you can use something like ISOBuster, rip the files out, and burn them to a dvd - would suggest using nero as it is the easiest -
Sounds like Dana shouldn't be working for MS - ALL of their OS install from CD/DVD that you can either A. boot to or B. run from within Windows - -
wasn't there just a post about how to do a clean install with a upgrade version?
-
use a proper burning program instead of windows explorer.
Windows explorer broke the bootsector
Try imgburn
http://www.imgburn.com/ -
jpagel thanx!
the files came in a folder not in an iso image form.
i did a little bit research and learnt about what was missing from the burnt CD
if my memory doesnt fail me i think it was called boot sector. -
Did you download the files one by one or as a single package?
-
i am pretty sure once stock is sold out. the next batch of windows upgrade retail dvds microsoft would have fixed that bug. and it will just be like the non bootable one i downloaded -
so after dowloading it, i just extracted the contents just like a .zip file -
ehm, what was the extension of the package? .iso or .bin?
-
repeat from post #5!
quoted from microsoftmarket place
"...
7) Can I burn a copy of the upgrade version of Windows Vista I have purchased?
>>While you cannot burn a copy of your upgrade version of Windows Vista from your PC, you are eligible to receive software fulfillment—a DVD or 5 CDs--from Microsoft (you pay only shipping and handling). You will be able to request your DVD or CD copy through out Windows Vista Fulfillment page beginning February 25th.

cheers ... -
unless the package is a .iso or .bin/.cue to create an image, or the package includes the files to make the cd/dvd bootable you must made the cd/dvd bootable when you create the cd/dvd - .iso and .cue/.bin files normally make the cd/dvd bootable for you.
QHN - then why provide the download??? -
again it is clearly stated on the site - this is to me a way for uncle bill to be sure that they can control how many upgrade licences did they sell and so forth
. real owner would get the dvd/cd after feb25, after a "fullfillment" (ha ha) period
cheers ... -
They want you to install it via .exe (doesn't mean that you can't install) - all the core files are there though, all you need to do is make your cd/dvd bootable - They probably tell you that so you wont go reproducing cd's and selling them -
-
Great. I already have Vista installed. I will wait for the windows vista fulfilment starting on feb25 to order my DVD. I hope the copy microsoft will send to me by then will not be the fixed. fixed as in they might have repaired the bugs in the current retail vista upgrade dvd that allows you to boot from dvd and also install vista over vista to get a clean install
-
I got my copy of Vista via MSDN as an ISO and burned it with Nero. I had to go into the setup menu when booting up my computer to run from the CD drive, but all went well.

did you read that.
sony is pathetic. all drivers should work on any version of windows be it starter, basic, premium, business, ultimate or enterprise or be it the N versions. -
