I recently installed this update through windows update along with many others.

    (1)
    Update for Windows Vista (KB938371) - v1.024

Install this update to enable future updates to install more efficiently on Windows Vista. This update is required before Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) can be installed. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

    (2)
    Update for Windows Vista (KB937287) - Build 6001.17052 (x86)

Install this update to enable future updates to install more efficiently on Windows Vista. This update may be required before certain future updates can be installed. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

This must mean that SP1 is going to be released any day now since they are releasing updates to prep our system for the upgrade

Anyone else thinking this as well?

Or it just means that they found some things that had to be fixed before SP1 came out, and they saw no reason not to push it out today, *regardless* of SP1's timetable.

Well you CAN get Vista SP1 AND XP SP3, for vista just change registry values and it'll automatically download the service pack 1 that's out there...

That's what I've heard. And as for SP3 for windows XP, I know a friend who has it, I just think they never released it. iunno I could be wrong, but I DO know someone who has SP3.

That is the RC version and not the official release. I am talking about the official release

Which one, for XP or for Vista?

And plus I'm sure they've completed SP1 for vista, I mean I HAD a full version copy of vista in November/December 2006 when it was actually completed...

    Anyways, iunno you're probably right.

this is for VISTA..not the sp3 for xp

the copy of vista you had was a RC release, which is a post beta...pre release version....even though it was vista...it wasn't the complete full version

Windows Vista was released to OEMs on November 8th or 11th. That's why.

I'll wait until the final SP1 of Vista is out. I'm not having any issues with the actual Vista and don't want to mess up my actual installation with a not final service pack. Why are you all so desperate to get it? Microsoft has already issued some of the first Vista bugs with updates during the last year.

If it wasn't for people trying out software when it's in beta and RC stages, developers wouldn't have the feedback necessary to create good programs/software/updates/etc.
