    Hi,

    I have a external HD SATA 7.200RPM in a case USB 2.0.

My doubt is: Can I install Vista in my external case? I win in performance? My laptop support only IDE 5400 internal, what's the better: 5400 internal or SATA 7200 USB 2.0 external??

    Thanks so much!

    Regards

    Rafael

what is it that you are trying to accomplish... Yes you can install to the exteranl if you have a bios option that allows you to boot the operating system from external USB in other words boot from usb drive has to be one of the options in your system BIOS..(now if you don't know what a BIOS is you should not even atempt the install until you read up on it)

    Thanks about your answer...

So, my Bios have this option, but I want to know about the performance.....example, I gain in performance? What's the better: 5400 internal or SATA 7200 USB 2.0 external??

    Thanks!!

would not gain anything. the usb is much slower than the internal hard drive of the machine. You will only get usb 2.0 speeds on your external. I suggest you just install your os to the main machine hard drive and use the external for data backup and/or for your software application installs.... Don't even think about playing games off of the external... it will be horrible. The SATA drive is fine and runs fast if you put it in a desktop but using those external enclosures drops your performance and speed.

    Thanks about your answer.

I think about this and I will install my os in a HD internal with 5400rpm, and I use my 30GB 4200rpm in external case as a data backup.

    ** I sell my SATA HD..... :(
