This is my Desktop... I want to be able to lock those first 4 icons there so that they cant be moved by anything else. Because generally when i download something, the computer icon and the document folder gets shifted down and the newly download items are right beneath my "trash" icon.
how can i lock those folders so that if i ever download anything... they'll apear beneath the firefox icon and not jump in front of my regular desktop icons?

I'm not sure thats possible. Desktop icons bugged me too for a long time but to get round this, since 2k, I've hidden desktop icons and made a desktop toolbar on the task bar which I then shunt over to the right hand side by the system bar icons. (see screenshot) that way I have a tidy/seemingly empty desktop and quick access to all the stuff on it.

I created several custom toolbars. I no longer have any icons on the desktop. There's a thread around here somewhere with my username attached to it about it that should make it searchable.

I find it's quicker in some ways with my desktop toolbar as you can get to anything on your computer from it, networks, drives, documents etc. Granted you end up with a screenful of menus but once you get used to it it's way quicker than double clicking through windows.

I use a sidebar app launcher to replace all of my Desktop icons. Then, those are easily available, and when I download things, they go to my desktop. Much less clutter that way, and I can always find what I need instantly.
