I think VLC its a great player n has played anything ive thrown at it
-
VLC FTW!!!!
The motto is: if VLC can't play it, it can't be played. -

VLC, for watch'in everything!
SUPER, for easier conversions? -
Media Player Classic
-
VLC and Gnome....
-
-
they're the same exact thing IMO. I've grown more to like MPC simply for it coming with my video-codec packs.
-
You don't need codec packs(eww yucky) with VLC
-
With a non-budget computer; I could care less; I can optimize.
-
Didn't know people used SUPER! to play media. I just use it to convert.
-
MPC is better as you can Fastfoward and rewind using the gui while in full screen mode. you can also apply filters with FFDShow. Its not possible with VLC.
but, with VLC you can view dvd iso files with the menus working and its fast too.
i use both of them. -
so far according to the poll:
VLC - 11 votes
SUPER - 0 votes
clearly VLC wins hands down. -
I like VLC. On occasion, it has problems playing files (possibly due to errors within the file) and the video tends to skip around or it abruptly ends the playback. MPC handles those situations far better if not resolve them seemingly completely. Another plus of MPC is that you are a fan of de juddering in 120Hz HDTVs like I am, then you might like ffdshow's frame rate doubler deinterlace option. It gives alot of artifacts and you need one hell of a processor for those higher resolution videos, but it's something nice to try out.
-
I think this POLL is wrong , because VLC is Media Player and SUPER is A/V Converter , why i use Super to play ?
anyway i voted for VLC Playeras there is no competition in the Poll
its should like
1. VLC Player
2. Media Player Classic
3. GOM Player
4. MPlayer -
you can use VLC to convert as well..

MPC
EDIT:
Yep, the codecs are installed when you install VLC.

I prefer media player classic over both
I don't even install VLC player anymore -
-
Ok then lol... it's a flawed poll.
I use VLC but heard of Super! .... so I started this poll to see what was better so I would bother downloading it. Now that I did I see it doesn't play files (only converts them) ... or does it ?
-
VLC has quite awful mkv support. And it's H.264 decoding is quite inefficient.
MPC or WMP+FFDshow+Haalis media splitter (The two latter being the important bits) are much better for video playback. -
-
FFdshow is better than VLCs implementation. And CoreAVC is much better than FFdshow, but commercial.
-
And both these two are standalone players like VLC, not need extra stuff like Codecs ? malware free ?
Thanks! -

No, they are codecs. If you're looking to download a player I would honestly use MPC. I forgot why b/c it was so long ago, but VLC player just wasn't cutting it. It was probably b/c of the mkv playback as Faba mentioned since i watch alot of those types of files.
K-Lite codec pack is what I download. It has MPC with it. It's in the free software sticky
Windows Media Player also isn't bad when you have the codecs.... -
But they are malware free.
-
I see... thanks!
-
Oh, and you'll need haalis media splitter, but that's included with CoreAVC.
-
Oh man!
Isn't there like a single software solution (other than VLC) for this, even if it's paid ?
-

super is more for converting
i go for VLC -
-
GOM is better streaming but VLC is the best ive ever used
-
You will see there is the K-Lite Codec Pack Full package, but for playback, you won't need that, it has too many codecs imo, plus it's for people to do encoding more.

Like I said earlier, the MPC is an installation free player, it's a standalone executable, you can run it from anywhere. It's 100% malware free, you can see their official open source project page here:

VLC hands down.
-
So what's better between K-Lite Codec pack and CCC pack ? Also, why media player classic over newer media player ?
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
I would go with K-lite. It has everything, and, for me at least, hasn't caused any troubles. And you can disable anything you may not need
I use MPC because its a low resource using program and I was having issues with MKV files.
You should just try both and compare for yourself.....it's MPC all the way for me though. Haven't looked back
edit: I just installed VLC. My god I hate this thing. When I was watching an anime (MKV file) with subtitles I had to firstly turn the subtitles on manually, then the subtitles looked HORRIBLE.
Uninstalling... -
I prefer VLC over MPC because it doesn't need any codec pack.
-
Thanks!

VLC does need codecs. It's just when you install VLC you install those Codecs
When you install K-Lite it does the same thing. You're installing MPC with all thoe codecs just like VLC player -
As for MPC, just try it before installing any additional codec packs, there is nothing to install, MPC works with the codecs in your system already. Download the MPC alone, it's one single .exe file. I believe it is the lightest resource player of all.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm
If you don't like MPC, you can just delete the .exe file. -
Easily MPC because it can actually handle the files I play. Plus, I love the menu pop-up when you move down towards the bottom of the screen while playing full screen. I have no idea why people are saying VLC because it doesn't have a codec pack. VLC is a codec pack. It uses codecs supplied by the FFmpeg Project.
Prasad: If you watch anime, pick up CCC. I haven't used K-Lite, but I've heard it's good. So far, CCC has been able to play everything. -
^^^^ -
CCCP is all you need;period. All I use is MPC, besides Windvd for HD content.

Yeah the pop up menu when u move down the screen during full mode is great. -
