VLC is a little faster, but I generally find MPC to play media more correctly. I avoid using WMP unless it is absolutely required (which is rare).

I like WMP's library best (because it's integrated with Media Center) but I use KMPlayer for all movies. It's the most versatile and customizable imo.

    (I've tried VLC too, it's alright :))

I've updated the question to: "What is your favourite video player?" because that was my intention. (instead of media player)

i've moved from the original mpc to vlc to mpc home cinema and finally to the kmplayer. i've found that kmp can play anything vlc can, and is faster and nicer to use.

i use the 7z version with the 'save configuration to ini file' setting to make it completely portable. (neither mpc nor vlc is natively portable; mpc creates a playlist directory in the application data folder, and vlc requires a special command.)

I used to use Media Player Classic when I was using Windows, now that I'm using Ubuntu I use SMPlayer as a front-end for MPlayer.

I am on my Computer (See spec below) and well I use Media Player Classic. Sometimes I get some problems. ( I think its because of 64bit)

But other then that Great. Tried VCL didn't like it but that just me. Lots of my friend like VCL.

    MPC from K-lite codec package....

Fast, lite, and plays my media better than the other players. VLC would always mess up my video with subtitles. The subs would be formatted incorrectly and constantly overlap/lag. Not a good player IMO.

A post with examples from a previous thread...

I use VLC for most video. I like that it can mount ISO files without using an external app like Alcohol or Daemon. However, it doesn't do QuickSlime or Real so I use MPC and QT or Real Alternative if I want to watch video that's been butchered into these formats. In fact I keep a copy of VLC portable on my camera's memory card.

It's gotta' be portable VLC Media Player hands down. No installation of anything needed and you can pretty much play any video.

For videos, Media Player Classic. WMP won't play DVD's unless I buy a DVD decoder, but MPC will, so that's an easy choice. MPC vs. VLC more or less came down to MPC being slightly easier to set up with shortcuts from VIDEO_TS.IFO files.

I use MPC that comes with the K-Lite Mega Codec pack too. No problems with it whatsoever. I downloaded VLC before but didn't like it because the interface was weird and I couldn't pause or stop during playback...I think. It has been a while so I don't really remember the exact details. I was probably being retarded. =/

MPC has the best usability and interface out of all the media players, IMO, so I currently use that for non-streaming video. MPC/CCCP/CoreAVC Pro/QT Lite is my preferred combination to watch formats that are popular right now, such as XivD, H.264, VC-1 and Quicktime. I still use WMP for streaming wmvs.

Easily WMP due to superior audio functions (equaliser) and library. Only real alternative in respect to audio is iTunes but is very bloated and crashed on my desktop. Video playback can be fixed by codecs, but this caused the one on my laptop to lose all video function including the equaliser, so currently I use RealPlayer, as it is more featured than MPC. Haven't tried VLC yet.

Me too. I don't see any faults in it. Apart from the "z0mfg, it's from M$, it HAS to be crap" virus that has spread like wild-fire.
