I've been fidgeting and looking at "guides" for this for more than an hour. They all say the same basic thing, which is useless since it's not working. Set output to DirectX and set it as wallpaper. Ok did all that, and it doesn't even attempt to work as my wallpaper. It still just plays as something through VLC, and my desktop wallpaper goes entirely black until I refresh.

I have a Lenovo T500 with windows 7 home premium, any help with this?

I just tried using deskscapes, it seems to work, but at a cost of of 40% of my cpu.

Do you have the Lenovo T500 with the intel built in graphics or the seperate GPU ?

    Separate gpu.

edit: Am i doing something wrong? Tried it on my friend's gateway fx P7805-u, and it didn't work either. Background went black, W7 went from aero to basic.

Hmm, should be able to do it then.

Have you tried resetting every setting to default ? Maybe reinstalling VLC will help. Personally I use MPC so I don't know about the feature, but probably it's just some stupid setting you overlooked...

It might have something to do with DirectX and Windows 7, my 2 cents.

    cheers ...

Mine is grayed out so I assume it doesn't work in W7.

Instead of the wallpaper on your desktop, the video is shown that you are watching with VLC.

I don't think it works in win7. I'm using the latest version too.
