I am interested at installing Linux as boot option at my laptop, but I am also considering the possibilty to use a software as VMWare or other in order to run Linux as a virtual machine.
Has any of you used VMWare. Is it easy to set up and use, without specific knowledge? Are there other software you would propose?
Tnx

I have used VMware and I found it quite simple to set up and use. Linux worked like a charm (it's easier to set it up in VMware than in a real laptop, no pain with wireless drivers), although it will have slow graphics. If you just need it for programming it's fine.

Tnx for answering!
I will just use it in order to run in Linux statistical programms.
One more question, from all the versions of VMWare out there, is the Workstation the one to choose? -
Yes, Workstation is the version you want to run on your workstation

If you are looking for a good (and free) virtualization software, try out VMWare Server. That one is free, and has most of what VMWare Workstation brings to the table.
