I have a Windows 7 virtual machine in Vmware workstation that I wanted to test the remote desktop feature with my netbook. The virtual machine is sharing a internet connection with my desktop PC through NT (same IP address). I don't have a second network card for the virtual machine to use.
How do I configure the RDP so I can connect the virtual machine?

Does the Win7 virtual machine have any problems getting onto the internet, or does it browse without a problem? In other words, when stuff comes back down the pipeline from the internet, is there any problem getting the right stuff to the right system (desktop or virtual Win7) or not?
If there aren't any problems, then you should be able to RDP onto the Win7 virtual from the netbook using the name and password for an existing user account on the Win7 virtual machine. If traffic on port 3389 (default RDP port) gets passed to the Win7 machine, you should be able to connect. -

I can browse internet fine. -
First, my apologies for assuming this was an easier issue than it now appears to be (I've been googling a bit).
What do you get when you run "ipconfig /all" on the host machine? -

Since the network is connected using NAT, the ip address is different inside the virtual machine.
Using IP config, I get the following
Ethernet adapter LAN connection:
Connection DNS suffix: localdomain
IPv4 Address: 192.168.159.150
subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.159.2
The virtual machine appears as 192.168.1.199 on the router, the same as the host machine, due to the nature of NAT.
I just need to know how to set it up. Remote assistance works in the virtual machine and I can connect to the virtual machine by using the easy connect feature. Since remote assistance is almost the same as remote desktop, i see no reason why RDP won't work. -
Why not use bridged mode?

are you committed to using WMware or is it just a rdp session you are after?
(i'm just thinking out loud)
I haven't used VMware for a while--btw--which version are you using? -
Simple solution is going to be to change the RDP port. Then RDP to ThatIP:NewPort.
At least this is what I'd try. -

I got it working now by switch vm's network adapter to bridge mode and disabled rdp in the host OS>. -
bridged mode works fine on every VM that i've set up on my laptops, all using wireless. I don't filter by MAC on the router for access, are you doing that?
