Today ive been getting this weird complete freeze spikes on my laptop.

    Heres how they happen.

When i play Counter Strike Source for a while (yeah its always that game :p). From time to time when i join a new game or just plain exit the .exe altogether, i would try to bring out Task Manager to either close it because it is not responding, or to just exit the application.

When i do this, a black screen comes up with a little dialogue box in the middle says "Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog. Failure- security options"

When i click "ok" it just exists the message box. During this period, all my windows are at "Not responding" and i cant do anything. I tried to restart my computer but this just ends up with my cursor in the middle of the screen and a flat out black background.

The only way to shut down / restart my computer is to just hold the power button on my laptop till it shuts off.

I have no clue how to reproduce this problem but i know that it happens majority when i am running Counter Strike (dont know if it is related to any other program).

    Thanks for helping

The exact error message will help us troubleshoot the problem. In the meantime, you should visit the CS forums to see if anyone else has this problem.

black screen video problems are almost always driver related or game patch related

its not a black screen problem.

it lags up my whole computer and causes it to be unusable. I cant even restart/shut down my comp properly

It has to somthing with task manager i think.
    .
Ill try to reprodce the problem and write down the message.

that will have to wait for tomorow tho

Have you checked your hard drive for errors? I've read several related posts (google for "Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog. Failure- security options") that identified a bad hard drive.

i have run the "test my drive" application on my newly bought Maxtor one touch 4 mini a week ago (the problem has occured a few days later since).

After running the "test my drive", it says that my driver has no problems.

    Although it has still occured.

    What should i do?

Have you Googled for ""Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog. Failure- security options"?

I can't speak for the rest of the posters, but I rely on Google to help troubleshoot. You'll find the exact same information that we do, and all you can really do is thoroughly read each website, compare it to what happens on your computer, and then decide if that "fix" might work for you.

For example, this might not have started until after you installed SP1. If that was the case, then you would discover that when you compared your history to someone else's who also had issues after SP1.

Perhaps I misunderstood your last post, but you should not install more than one anti-virus application. That will cause the operating system to become unstable.

Agreed completely - google is your best friend when troubleshooting.
