Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone one of you guys can help me.

Recently I have been experiencing really slow shutdown times for my new laptop. I used NBR's vista tweak to cut my shutdown time to 9000 with the WaitToKillService but still, it seems like my shutdown time is near a minute or over. I click the shutdown (or reboot) and then all my windows closes, my msn loses connection and my sidebar turns off then I just stare at my desktop for a good 20-30 secs while it does nothing. I am not running many programs besides Avira AV and Comodo and some essential programs for startup so I dont know why it takes so long to shutdown. Can anyone explain my program please?

Tried turning off clear pagefile on shutdown? I wouldn't really worry about long shutdown times except if they're excessively long (3 minute+ range). It's not like you need to sit and watch it shutdown. 90 seconds is a normal shutdown time hardly what I would consider "very slow".

How do I do that? I tried to manually close programs and im still staring at a blank desktop. I would like a faster shutdown because when I move from class to class I dont want to wait so long. WHen I first got my laptop, it was pretty fast on shutdown and reboots. Just for some reason it started to take extra long. I went to performance properties and it said that the file KBfiltr.exe was causing slow shutdown but I accidentally clicked the little balloon that said Remove from tray. I think this might be the cause of my slow shutdown but not sure what to do with it.

    Here's some info on KB:

    http://www.runscanner.net/files/exe/kbfiltr/kbfiltr.exe.aspx
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=163245

Basically, it's part of Asustek hotkey driver. I don't think it would cause a long shutdown (again I don't consider 90 seconds long).

Here's how to turn off clear pagefile on shutdown:

    Step 1:
    Go to Start -> Run
    Type in regedit

    Step 2:
    Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

    Step 3:
Change the value of ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0
    Close down registry.
    Restart Computer

To turn it back on, follow the above directions except change the value to 1.

Tried all that and still getting 90+ seconds of shutdown. The thing is, when I click restart or shutdown after closing all my programs, my laptop is not making any noise. The usual noise and light blink of the harddrive at work is not there. Its just quiet while im staring at my desktop until after a while everything shuts off. Even the HD light is not flickering... I dont think my laptop is actually doing anything while waiting.

hello, I have the same problem, and a friend, with an asus laptop also, have the same problem too.
It's KBFiltr.exe indeed, just kill it before shutting down.... it's a shame asus make software that crappy, or maybe it's just a vista 'feature'?? :D
anyways, you can make a .bat with the next line and run it before shutting down...

    Code:
    taskkill /f /im kbfiltr.exe
it works most of the times

    hope it helps!!!

PD: dont kill that process at start up, or simply while you are using the laptop, because the hot keys will act sooooooooo slow, that drive me nuts!!!!

Check "Problems Reports and Solution" in control panel. As well as your Event Log/Event Viewer to see what's slowing it down or causing the problem.
My shutdown is like 10-15 seconds with no shutdown tweaks.

From what I know it's Keyboard Device Filter Utility. Nothing to do with the ATK Hotkeys. I din install it and my Hotkey is functioning well. And I only have Synaptics Pointing Device Driver, HD Audio Control Panel, Avira Antivir, ThreatFire, Rainmeter & ObjectDock at start up.
