This is not really urgent since I can live with it but...
When I first Installed SP! and updated m Video Driver my boot time has been very long boot time(boot time is the page where The OS loads right, before the user logs on)
Also It sometimes hangs when loading.
Is this problem hardware Or software ?
Is there a way to make it fast again?(Already tried startup repair but to no avail)
Pls Help

Vista SP1 clears the prefetch and superprefetch folders. This knackers system performance for a while but it should come back after a while. This is stated on microsoft's website in the considerations before installing visat SP1 beta. The RTM is still not available to the general public (unless you have a technet subscription or use volume licensing). Did you get the full RTM or are you using a beta version? I ask this as when the RTM finally gets on Windows Update you will have the same experience as you will have to remove the beta version and reinstall the RTM version.

I used the RTM version
-
Yes as above. SP1 is also expected to boot slower and make your computer run slightly slower according to the benchmarks i read from the vista forums.
Vista 64 actually takes longer to boot than 32bit -
So you downloaded about 1.1GB? Have you done a disk defrag since installing SP1? This is something that really is a must.

Oh so it was not reallly a problem just a fact from Vista SP1.
That's fine as long as the applications is faster to run and more responsive
No I downloaded it Via Windows Update -
But it's not out on windows update yet. only the beta (albeit the refesh 2 version) is available via registry hacks. Sorry if it seems I'm rubbing it in, but I too originally downloaded it via Windows Update, I was then informed by someone on technet that it wasn't the final version, at the point of uninstalling it it told me that it was the beta version I was about to remove!!! Hopefully yours is the full RTM version, otherwise you'll be doing it all again in a month or so.

You can do a boot-files defrag, its somewhere in the tweaks guide. Also do a normal defrag

I always Defrag My hard Drive every time I turn on my computer(no kidding)
It is Still slow -
what defrag software do you use? and you still haven't said how long your'e waiting. A reboot on my pc takes about 45 secs from the bios screen to the windows log on. I've only got a 1.5mhz core2duo, so I think that is quite reasonable. Since I installed SP1 it slowed down drastically for about 8 or 9 reboots, then back to normal. I wonder if you've got a virus or any other bug in your laptop.

At last someone else who agrees with me

I had the same experience on my "old" vista,
when I updated to SP1 using the hacking method,
my system boot time was extremely slow(16 green scrolls before the vista orb appears)
I then formatted the HDD, reinstalled vista and installed SP1 on a "new" vista,
and everything was fine(3 and a half green scrolls)
SP1 improved the boot time on a "new" vista,
but worsen the boot time on an "old" vista
try install SP1 on a fresh installed vista -
Ew. Not looking forward to that.

Or right here in my signature line.

A regular defrag and bootfile defrag are NOT the same thing. See my signature for the specifics on a bootfile defrag.

I don't have a Vista Installer since It came with my laptop, Is there any other way??
Do you think restoring it to factory settings will work?? -
restoring to the factory setting and install SP1 immediately, that's what I did.
I think this should work for you -

Great, Thanks
Will try your method. Problem now is that where do I put all of my FIles?
Looks like I need to buy an external Hard Drive -
make a new partition, dump them inside,
reinstall vista on C: -

How do I make A new partition? Restoring to factory default will delete all of my files right? -
Its a good idea to have an external HDD as backup. I put all my movies and music in mine and play it straight off it there. This also puts less load in your main HDD.
I recommend getting one and keeping all your stuff in there -

Will there be a problem when I will just use an enclosure than a external Hard drive
I am still weighing If I will buy or not, I really like to put all my Movies , Pics and Anime's(including Bleach) in there. -
Im using an enclosure HDD atm. I bring it to work with me sometimes.
-
To create a new partition, right-click "computer", choose "manage",
a "computer management" window should opened.
At the center portion of the window, choose "storage", then "disk management".
you have to shrink the C: first, then make a new partition on the free space.
In my Toshiba recovery disc, I have the option to choose which partition to format and install vista on it. I moved my data to D: and reinstalled vista on C:. This way I have all my data back after reinstall. I'm not sure if your recovery disc gives you the option to do that. -

Thanks to Flipfire and roytse for there support gave you rep points(I already gave you flipfire need some time to rep you again)
My boot time is now faster by a lot and it does not crash anymore.
I Don't know about you but I can make 2 configurations on my boot settings
1.8 full bars boot time, 46 processes running and 44% RAM used.
2. 16-20 full bars boot time, 42 processes running and 26% RAM used
I chose the latter part because RAM is more important than boot time(I don't know why I can get this kind of boot setups) -
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
Remember that Vista handles RAM much differently than XP did. It tries to maximize the use of ram by filling it up with the things that it learns over time you use a lot. The "new" thinking is unused ram is WASTED ram. It will INSTANTLY free up memory if you need it.
So if I were you, I would go with the faster boot times and not worry about your own idea of optimal memory use (meaning as much unused as you can get). That idea of optimal memory use was perfectly valid at one time, but the new management paradigm that Vista uses is quite different and has proven thus far to be quite effective. Trust Vista's memory management a bit and see, I think you will find that the adage of unused memory is wasted memory to be true.

Lol, and I have around 6 full bars and 68 processes running and 40% of RAM used.

Is that so? okay will try to revert back to the fast boot time process. I was thinking that since I have much more RAM my graphics card can get more memory it needs to run my games. -
PC Booster 2008 1.0.0.1
works for me it made it a lil more faster then How it was that **** was slow as F**** -
ScuderiaConchiglia NBR Vaio Team Curmudgeon
I have to be honest, I am not a gamer, so I can't really tell you how well Vista's memory managment shares memory with graphics cards. It may free it up for that purpose just like it does when an app needs it, it may not be so friendly. I really don't know. Maybe some one else can chime in here with some specifics.
Or maybe YOU can find out for us! I know there are some utilities that will tell you how much memory is being shared with a graphics card. You could try your two different boot configurations and see what affect, if any the extra available memory has on Vista allocating shared memory to the graphics card.
Gary -
Go with the boot time. Ignore the RAM usage, as Scuderia said its not exactly ram being wasted.
As for the gpu heres a clue since we have the same gpu, except i got 4gb ram. Its automatically assigned, you cannot change it

I did go for the boot time, Also added some more tweaks and I got this:
5 full bar boot time, 39 processes running and 30% RAM usage.
This is quite fast
Since your total available graphics memory is 1800+, and your system shared memory is 1700+
Does that mean youa re already using your ram even without gaming??
Also checked mine an dit already took 750+ from max of 886mb. -
wow 5 bars
mines like 10
lol -
No it doesnt mean its using that much. It means that how much RAM it is able to use. It dynamically shifts depending on its needs

Okay something wierd happened
If I use msconfig to disable services my boot time is 7.5 bars.
Will check when using services.msc again -
My boot time also had significantly increased. I am getting 17 green scrolls before the vista bubble appears. I justdid the boot file defrag (by Gary's method). This happens only after installing the pre-requisite updates for SP1.
-
boot as in start up right. we arent talking bout shutting down
-
Yes me too, I have a Dell Inspiron 530. Before I updated my Vista to SP1, the boot up was speedy. I counted the green bar passing 8 times before SP1. Now after SP1, I had to wait for that green bar passing/scrolling 43 times before it got into a log-in screen. After I typed in my password, everything ran fast though. The problem was only in that black screen with green bar passing.
I deleted readyboot but it didn't help. I also tried numerous shutdown and restart to rebuild readyboot. I also updated every drivers, patches, you name it, offered by windows update and Dell website. None of them seem to resolve my problem. The only solution that did work was to revert back to the original Vista. My Dell Inspiron 530 now was back in full speed again. Green bar indicator only passed 8 times.
My Thinkpad T60 updated Vista SP1 without any slow-down problem.
