What's a good software to convert between hi-def 1080P or 720P wmv-hd, h.264 in .avi .mkv, .wmv, .mpg continer or just lowering the bitrates.
I'm currently using adobe Flash CS3 encoder to batch encode these videos. Are there better softwares for this which support batch processing? The software doesn't have to be free.

There are many options out there. I find Xilisoft's video converter (not free) and Format Factory (free) very easy to use, quick, and efficient at converting. Both convert between many formats and bitrates.

Windows or OSX?

I'm using windows vista 64bit ultimate for those who's wondering. -
using CTRL-F (if using Firefox) and search multi-threading, should get you to the point of interest quick! Although I'm sure you are already quite aware of this. -

I've tried searching the page, but found nowhere mentioning the word, multithreading. That's why I'm asking if its multithreaded application.
-
Well, you need to search multi-threading with the dash. It's under "Easier operation and better quality" and states:
Easier doing and better enjoyment
Supporting multi-threading and batch process, the video converting software detects your CPU automatically and offers you the best speed to convert video in a single click. And it brings you a deluxe visual and acoustic feast with top quality.
Was this the feature you were looking for? To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what multi-threading does... -

Yes, this is exactly the feature that i'm looking for.
If you haven't already looked for answers to what multithreading mean, here's the explaination.
If the program is multithreaded and you have say a quadcore processor, you can complete a specific job in 1/4 amount of time (of course there are overhead and inefficiencies..etc).
For example: I have a 120min hd video which takes 4 hours to encode for a non-multithreaded application. If the application is multithreaded, you can complete the encoding process in 1 hour. -

Had anyone done any tests whether it would be more power efficient to convert things on a netbook or a desktop processor?
-
Alternatively, you could use handbrake which is also multithreaded. It also has alot of other options that may be extremely useful if you find that you need them.

Did anybody mention a software called "SUPER" ???
It uses the CPU a lot, and the link is difficult to find on their site, last I checked it onyl worked in IE... but it does the job. -
google SUPER, it is one of the best

I have horrible experience with Super. It has a horrible integration with ffmpeg codec (for converting) and it doesn't have the flexibility that I needed. I would crash everytime i decode a HDV video with AC3 audio codec, very annoying. Also, it lacks the many feature such as pause, run as a background service, any kind of more advanced features like xilosoft video converter.
Also, the interface for super is one of the worst I've seen, though I can't expect much from a free software.
I just checked out handbrake. It's actually pretty good with lots of features and smooth integration with ffmpeg codec. Much better than SUPER. Commandline processing is always a plus- more control over the video specs and much more efficient. -
