I've just bought a Lenovo T60 with Core Duo 1.83 GHz, 1 GB RAM and ATI Radeon mobility X1400 128 MB RAM. I have installed Adobe CS3 and I'm experiencing a very slow performance in photoshop CS3. If I'm opening a 1600 x 1200 JPEG file it takes 5-10 seconds before I can select any of the tools in the left panel.

I have a fujitsu-Siemens with a Core Duo 1.6 GHz processor with 1 GB RAM and an Intel GMA950 graphics adapter which performs considerable better in Photoshop CS3.

I haven't installed any ATI drivers on my Lenovo but currently using the generic built-in driver in Windows Vista Business.

Does NOT having the correct driver affect performance in Photoshop ?

Since Photoshop is CPU/RAM intensive & not GPU intensive it should be fine.

True, but I'm using Photoshop on a lower spec'd computer with much better performance. Thats whats bugging me... but I'm going to upgrade to 3 GB RAM within a week, so I'll survive...

Yee you can get it cheap(sub $50) on Newegg.
EDIT: Try some of the tweaks in the Vista tweaks thread
