When I'm playing a game sometimes the video driver crashes and it lowers the card frequencies to low 3d and nothing can bring them up to 3d mode - only restart.
    Vista Business 32 bit
    180.43 drivers

Any ideas how can I put them back?

    Thank you.

Yes once the video driver crashes it will revert back to 2D mode for stability and only a restart can fix this .

to avoid this try a different display driver from laptopvideo2go.com mate

What laptop/gpu do you have? The 17x series is fairly stable, especially if you have a 8600M GT. I use the 177.66 drivers with a modified inf and they are by far some of the best out there. Try out a variety until you get the effect you want.

Vostro 1500 with 8600M GT. I'll try them then. I just installed the latest, thinking they are good.
Btw my gpu is overclocked, but even after I lowered the clock (still above default values) it still happens. I Play Half Life 2, which doesn't even need it - ask me why I overclocked it :D

Just to be completely sure - there is no software fix for that, is there?

I suspect you mean avoid crashing, not reverting?

Yes, changing drivers is to prevent crashing not to restore 3d.

It's getting worse. Now even without overclock it still does that.
Everytime I decide to play HL2 Episode One on a very intense scene the video driver crashes. And I haven't even maxed the video options, cause I can. I get 60fps max, cause I'm limited by the vsync. I'm starting to think it is from overheating, but 80 degrees is not that much. With overclock it reached over 90 and it didn't crash right away. Last time I played the game with no overclock I managed to get around 30 minutes play before the driver crash.
177.66 and 180.43 - no difference? Do you think it's from the drivers?
Please help or I'll turn into that mad german kid, playing unreal :)
    Thank you

That is odd, usually the defective gpu's had overheating, thus leading to the crashes. It could be that drivers were not cleaned up properly. Have you tried Guru3d's Driver Sweeper in safe mode, then a driver reinstall? People usually see crashing starting at 95C and up. If you disable vsync you will also probably see your avg. fps at 75-80.
