I just became interested in video editing. Some of the longer ones, such as complete concerts in HD 720/1080 of over 1 hour length, are a pain to watch due to buffering after their initial quick load speed. Then during the conversion to the Win Media Player (V.7 WMV) I'm running into a problem with the audio sync on the longer ones.

I know this problem is caused by dropped frames during the conversion process. The more frames dropped, the more out of sync the audio becomes. After 1 hour, out of a 2 hour video, the audio sync problem becomes noticeable. This isn't a problem on shorter videos of less than 15 minutes. I don't think all the dropped frames are in the original download, but I could be wrong.

So, what I'm looking for, is there any other software that I could use, that would covert downloaded video without dropping too many frames? I've tried AVS4YOU, and their free version also dropped a lot of frames during the covert. I don't care if it's free ware, or pay to play.

If anyone has an idea, as to how I can solve this problem, please let me know.

    shanevo,
No, I've never heard of that software. This is exactly the type of information I was looking for. I've downloaded Handbrake from CNET, and will play around with it.

I did some analysis on the downloaded video file, that I was having the problem with, and it appears that the raw file also has it's audio sync out of kilter. So maybe I'll try to download the video again.

Thank you! +1 rep for you shanevo. :notworthy:

I will have to check that out too. I am always looking for the fastest / best quality way of doing things. I just started messing around with Intel QuickSync Decoder (free) that works with FFDShow decoder inside of Handbrake.

To Tinderbox, and shanevo, I've just started my evaluation of Handbreak, and Catalyst 4. I'll report my findings, after I have a chance to compare all of the aforementioned software.

    Once again, thanks to everyone.

YouTube has already encoded the videos to a lossy state so they are small in file size and it can be had with a very common .MP4 container or a .FLV container.

Why in the world are you encoding/transcoding them to another format and losing more quality?

Third: It's against YT rules/regulations to download videos and thus not allowed to talk about how to do it or what you do it with on the forums, you may want to reword your post so that its only about converting videos and not about anything else.
